Medusa

Medusa

This artwork was unique to me in the sense that I grew up around classical art, specifically figures found in Greco-Roman art, such as Perseus and Medusa. While not necessarily in a classical style, I tried to recreate nudity and the mythological figure of Medusa using dot shading, as well as muted colors, using only black, white, silver, and dark green. I realized after drawing most of Medusa that the white background took away from her figure, which prompted me to black out the background.

WHAT THE DEAD DO AT NIGHT!

WHAT THE DEAD DO AT NIGHT!

This artwork is the second out of the aforementioned series, and features another skeleton, selling weapons at night, somewhere in the desert. The artwork features several different small details, including cracked knuckles, Christian imagery, cact-eyes, and a cause of death (bulletwound). The skeleton also says pick your poison, and the match of this phrase and weapons is a reference to Warren Lotas’ recent “End of Days” collection.

WHAT THE DEAD DO AT DAYTIME

This artwork is the first of a series of two artworks relating to skeletons in the Southwestern United States. This artwork was made after making the other work in this series, and was mainly inspired by the art style of that artwork. This artwork depicts a skeleton sunbathing at the Cal Neva Hotel pool (though this hotel overlooks water in real life), sipping an iced tea which is pouring through his non-existent esophagus. The railing overlooks a desert cliff.

Waves

Waves

This artwork started out as a sketch in class, but over time I found myself drawn into coming back and finishing it. The artwork is simple to look at, consisting of only four colors. The top half is a solid mustard color, while the bottom consists of a light blue, a navy blue, and a mint color, as well as black and white. I layered jagged blocks of these colors and made a mist out of white, so as to give a sort of abstract interpretation of a turbulent sea as opposed to a calm sky.
